Environmental Partners, Inc. (EPI) has conducted site investigations and characterizations on behalf of a wide variety of clients throughout the continental United States. Our experience ranges from investigating releases at small, uncomplicated sites to remedial investigations at State and Federal Superfund sites. We have worked on issues involving both terrestrial and aquatic environments. EPI has evaluated the environmental fate and mobility of a broad range of contaminants, including petroleum hydrocarbons, chlorinated solvents, metals, and polychlorinated biphenyls A sample of the site investigation and characterization services EPI personnel have provided our clients is presented below.
Project #1: EPI is providing site investigation and characterization services at a 109 acre former manufacturing facility for a Puget Sound-area company. Site investigation and characterization work is being performed as part of the Corrective Measures Study (CMS) process under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA). Site characterization investigations have been integrated with onsite demolition projects, remediation system design and installation, site development, routine groundwater monitoring and reporting, and technical support work associated with sediment excavation and capping. Peripheral services include operation and maintenance of a density driven convection groundwater remediation system, regulatory negotiations, preparation of work plans, health and safety plans, quality assurance project plans, quarterly groundwater monitoring reports and operation, maintenance and performance monitoring of groundwater remediation systems.
Project #2: EPI has an ongoing relationship with AmeriGas to provide professional environmental services for many of their active and inactive properties across the US. EPI has performed subsurface site investigations and characterization work at former manufactured gas plants on the east coast, PCB-contaminated property in Florida, and numerous maintenance facilities with leaking underground storage and waste oil tanks. Many of these projects involve site investigation and characterization as the initial step toward the decision to purchasing a new property or close an existing property. Thorough site investigation and characterization is required for efficient subsurface remediation design and implementation.
Project #3: A large regional waste recycler and composting company has an ongoing relationship with EPI to perform pre-purchase site investigations for their expanding business. At one property being developed by the client EPI has performed subsurface investigation, characterization, and remediation projects at many locations throughout the 114 acre property. One of the projects at this property involved locating and investigating a suspected underground storage tank whose location and condition were unknown. EPI successfully located the UST which was found to have caused a release to soil and groundwater. After soil remediation and a short monitoring period EPI successfully obtained a No Further Action determination from the Washington State Department of Ecology. EPI has also designed, installed, and sampled monitoring well networks at several of the client’s active facilities.
Project #4: EPI is providing environmental consulting services for a large national energy pipeline client at many locations throughout the US. Each project location is unique and requires extensive site characterization and remediation due to impending construction of additional pipelines. There are commonly multiple assessments and multiple remediation areas at each site encompassing soil, groundwater and air impacts. Contaminants of concern include PCBs, mercury, arsenic, lead, petroleum. The work is being performed under the Washington State Department of Ecology’s Voluntary Cleanup Program and required agency interaction and negotiations. EPI has been able to meet the client’s aggressive schedule while maintaining an exceptionally high quality of work throughout this project. |
